Fiji sex register’

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs told a Senate estimates hearing that “Fiji is the first country in the world to have fully registered its sex, age, and sexual orientation”.

“Fiji’s registration is in line with many of its neighbours and international partners,” he said.

It will take about 18 weeks before information can be disseminated and “a draft law must be issued by July next year, following which it will need the approval of the national parliament.”

Fiji is home to 30 million people and the country’s population has swelled from 15 million a centur더킹카지노y ago to 30 million today.

Australia has about 3.7 million people in Fiji and the majority are employed and there are some 7,600 police and military personnel on the islands.

A spokesman for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the UK said the move was “not surprising.”

“The Australian government had expressed strong concerns over Fiji’s recent decision to move to register its own human resources. There has been a long track record of UN human rights violations in Australia, including the recent sexual abuse case,” he said in a statement.

“The UN has previously raised concerns about Australia’s failure to respond to its own international obligations.”

Fiji’s government had also said the move was due to a shift in attitudes that “sends a clear signal” to gay rights activists.

The US embassy in New York was in close touch with its counterparts in other countries who had “been alarm바카라ed by Fijian progress towards equal protections for LGBTI people”, a spokesman for the US embassy in Fijana told AFP.
