Comparative Advantages

Geographical isolation (desert in the north, the Pacific Ocean, the Andes and the Patagonian ice) that makes it an island from the health point of view, reducing the incidence of pests and diseases; Mediterranean climate beneficial for obtaining optimal raw material; and staggered production and in-season in the northern hemisphere.

Competitive advantages

The political and economic stability that encourages entrepreneurship; modern infrastructure and export logistics; the use of technology for the production and processing of various products and compliance with stringent international standards and certifications, and an extensive network of free trade agreements with 63 countries. All these factors make Chile a safe and reliable supplier of healthy and quality food.

The quality of the food supply produced in Chile has achieved remarkable recognition according to the latest Global Food Security Index 2015 prepared by The Economist Intelligence Unit, which ranked the country as a leader in Latin America.

Chile is currently developing new products with higher added value aimed at niche markets, including gourmet products such as olive oil, delicatessen seafood, mineral and flavored waters, jams, jellies, wine stand, dehydrated berries and native potatoes, some types of honey, premium wines, pisco and microbrews.

It should also be noted that among the more traditional products, Chilean companies are innovating, both in production systems and the final product, to add value to its exports, some examples are the salmon industry and the pork, poultry, cattle and sheep.
