Creative industries are those activities that are based on creativity, skills and talent and that favour wellbeing and job creation through generating and using intellectual property.

This industry generates jobs, human development, social inclusion and incorporates a significant component of entrepreneurship, innovation and value creation.

Creative industries are the fifth biggest economic sector in terms of sales volumes, after financial services, information technology, pharmaceutical products and biotechnology, and tourism.

According to research carried out by the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the British Council, in 2011 global exports of creative goods and services amounted to:

US$646.000
BILLION
equal to;

2,5%
of total global
goods exports

and 34.4% of total service exports. Furthermore, the report states that 14% of this total originated on the American continent.

This is one of the industries with the greatest growth worldwide, increasing by

10,8%

per year during the period
2002 to 2011
Chile is known for its creativity and the innovative nature of its professionals.

The value generated by Chile's creative industries is estimated to be 2.2% of GDP (2013), 1.6% higher than in 2010 (the National Council of Culture and the Arts, CNCA, 2016).

In Chile this sector comprises more than 30,000 companies, 3% of the national total. Between them, they generate 6% of the jobs in Chile and their sales exceed US$11 billion, according to a creative industry mapping study carried out by CNCA in 2014. 99% of the companies in the creative sector are micro, small- or medium-sized companies, while just 1% are large, according to information from Chile's internal revenue service (Servicio de Impuestos Internos, SII).
