Sustainability and Organic Food
The Chilean food industry has worked hard to improve its social and environmental performance. Companies and workers have together made a commitment to improve conditions, processes and products.
For instance, our fruit and vegetables and wines and spirits industries have implemented initiatives related to their use of energy, waste management, climate change and community engagement in order to guarantee that they are meeting the requirements of international markets and consumers around the world.
Chile’s organic production has developed under a regulatory framework since 2006 and the Agricultural and Livestock Service is the entity responsible for organic certification. Chile supplies the world with organic products prepared within holistic agricultural, fishing or forestry management systems that foster and improve the health of the agroecosystem and biodiversity, the biological cycles and the biological activity of the soil.

Foods from Chile, source of life
Chile is a country with great natural and human potential located in a place of amazing geographical and climatic contrasts. Chile’s unique characteristics lend it unrivalled conditions for producing fresh, pure, healthy, good quality food which is appreciated around the world.
Chile has the most transparent skies on Earth and possesses some of the world’s most significant freshwater reserves. Natural barriers at all four compass points protect Chile, converting it into a true phytosanitary island, thereby reducing the incidence of pests and diseases.
As it is such a long country, Chile has an unusually varied range of climates. One that particularly stands out is the Mediterranean climate, which has enabled Chile to become a major food producer. This climate is especially advantageous for obtaining good quality raw materials and staggered production, which is counter-seasonal to the Northern Hemisphere.
