The world’s biggest game trade fair
With over 26,000 attendees, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) has become the world’s primary forum for game developers.
Programmers, game designers, artists, producers, audio professionals and others involved in the development of interactive games gather at this annual event to exchange ideas and make contacts.
From March 14 through 18, the Moscone Center in San Francisco will be the setting for more than 400 conferences, panels, tutorials and round table discussions on a wide range of game development topics taught by industry experts.
Chile will be present at the event with a pavilion, where 20 companies will showcase their products and services and be on the look-out for business opportunities. This will be Chile’s biggest delegation yet at this event, reflecting the outstanding growth of its game industry.

Chilean games increase their global presence
The global games industry has been characterized by great dynamism and growth.
Chile has not been left behind by this phenomenon and the companies in this sector have focused their efforts on looking for tools to conquer the huge international market which, in 2015, moved around US$95 billion.
In recent years, Chilean companies have created their own games for phone apps and advergaming for third parties, among other products. Their efforts have not just focused on entertainment but also on education, training and the mining industry.
This development led Chilean businesses to attend the Game Developers Conference for the first time in 2012, supported by ProChile*.
Since then, Chilean companies have experienced exponential growth. Today 36 companies are members of the Chilean Game Developers Association (VG Chile).
According to VG Chile, over 160 Chilean games for PC, consoles, cellphones and HTML5 were released in 2015 – 60% more than the year before – resulting in revenue of around US$13 million in game services.
Around 320 people currently work in this industry, 28% more than in 2014.
These game developers have succeeded in creating a space for themselves in the market and in introducing their products into the major countries and different consumption platforms around the world, with the USA and Japan being their main markets.
In this latest edition of the GDC, the Chilean companies attending will be able to showcase their latest innovations and hold a networking event in Chile’s pavilion with a view to capturing the attention of game agents, publishers and distributors around the world.

Free Trade Agreement between Chile and the USA
With 25 free trade agreements signed with 64 markets, Chile currently has free access to 64.1% of the world’s population, corresponding to 86.3% of global GDP. These include the agreement signed with the USA on June 6, 2003, which came into effect on January 1, 2004.
The United States is currently the biggest market for Chile’s non-copper exports, with US$6.3 billion recorded in 2015. Because of the characteristics of the US market, which offers great opportunities for value-added products, last year it was the main destination for Chilean services, valued at US$233 million.
