Well-known European bloggers to promote Chilean blueberries
Chile’s Blueberry Committee, together with ProChile and the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) organized a workshop for well-known European bloggers. The purpose was to raise awareness about the quality and innocuity of Chilean blueberries, as well as different ways of using them in delicious recipes.
The meeting took place this week in Berlin in Germany and the participants had the opportunity to take part in a show kitchen in one of the city’s main restaurants.
“We were accompanied by around eight bloggers who are all connected with cooking and healthy food. Some of them have more than 20,000 followers. So we showed them a range of different recipes using Chilean blueberries through a cooking show led by European chef, Udo Einenkel, who is well-known in the field of vegetarian cooking. The idea is for this group of bloggers to cook these and other recipes inspired by our blueberries, uploading them together with photos to their blogs, twitter and the other internet platforms through which they communicate with their followers,” explained Charif Christian Carvajal, Europe and Asia marketing manager for Asoex.
Carvajal added that this workshop forms part of the Chilean blueberry campaign for Germany for the 2015-2016 season, in which social media has a major role.
Mr Carvajal added that Udo Einenkel is a professional chef, vegetarian and a consultant on health and healthy diet. His cooking is high in nutrients and wholefoods and he likes working with fresh ingredients. Udo Einenkel is the owner and chef of the “Abendmahl” (Last Supper) restaurant in Berlin. He is currently working on his latest cookbook and he also gives cooking classes and seminars. His cookbook “Vegetarische Verführungen ” (vegetarian temptations) has been a big hit and is on sale in bookstores across Germany.
ProChile’s Commercial Director in Berlin Bettina Stengel told SimFRUIT: “The activity was a great success. Each blogger took active part in the cooking and then together they tried the dishes, which were all based around Chilean blueberries.”
She added: “We were able to try a variety of recipes, including a salad dressing, a classic blueberry pie and even a chutney. There is a vast range of ways in which the product can be used.”
Ms Stengel also emphasized: “The bloggers were really interested. Before the workshop, they hadn’t realized that Chile is an important supplier of blueberries and they also only thought of the product in terms of preparing sweet dishes and as a fresh snack.”
