Chilean foods presented in Germany
The 2015 ANUGA food industry fair was held October 10-14 in Cologne, Germany, and Foods from Chile played a leading role in the event. The German press showed Chile’s pavilion on DWTV and highlighted the brand, saying that it represents a major push by Chile to promote its food products.
Journalists from specialist publications and pavilion visitors took part in an array of activities around the brand, including tastings, informational talks about Chilean foods and their attributes, and a workshop led by Chilean chef Alexis Rojas.
The highlight of the Foods from Chile presentation in Germany was the installation of a food truck on one of Germany’s busiest streets during the Cologne Food Street Festival. The Foods from Chile food truck opened at 11 a.m. and delighted hundreds of passers-by with its dishes throughout the afternoon.
A total of 1,500 portions were served. The local dishes prepared using Chilean products included plums and walnuts wrapped in bacon and zucchinis. The Chilean dishes included Chilean-style hot dogs known as completos because of their many toppings, crab burgers with avocado and bacon, pastel de choclo (meat and sweetcorn pie), sopaipillas (zucchini fritters) with pebre (Chilean salsa) and beef kebabs.
“It was a complete success. We hadn’t organized an activity like this one in Cologne before and the response was exceptional. We were practically out of food by 9 p.m. and we received a lot of compliments on our food products and dishes,” said ProChile’s Commercial Attaché in Germany, Bettina Stengel.
