The world’s biggest game trade fair
From March 01 through 03, the Moscone Center in San Francisco will be the setting for more than 400 conferences, panels, tutorials and round table discussions on a wide range of game development topics taught by industry experts.
With over 27,000 visitors recorded for the 2016 version, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) has become the world’s primary forum for game developers.
Programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals and others involved in the development of interactive games gather at this annual event to exchange ideas and make contacts.
Chile will be present at the event with a pavilion, where 24 companies will showcase their products and services and be on the look-out for business opportunities.

Chilean games aim to make their mark on the world scene
For the sixth consecutive time, a delegation of Chilean game developers will be present at the “Game Developers Conference”, with the support of ProChile*.
This sector is growing dynamically and currently comprises over 40 companies in Chile. Some 85% of them are members of the Chilean Game Developers Association (VG Chile).
According to the Association, this industry employed over 325 people in Chile during 2015, when over 160 games for PCs, consoles, cellphones and websites were developed, an increase of 60% compared to 2014.
VG Chile anticipates total sales for 2016 to be over US$18 million thanks to the international market penetration achieved by game developers, who have succeeded in installing their products on various consumer platforms.
The US and Japan are currently the main destinations for Chilean games, where they have recently received significant attention, such as the Best Game Award 2016 in the category "Instant Games". This was awarded by Facebook to "Endless Lake", which was developed by the Bekho Team.
As well as participating in the GDC 2017 Fair, they aim to strengthen Chile’s presence on the video game developer’s map. Chilean companies will showcase their latest innovations and hold a networking event in Chile’s pavilion with a view to attracting the attention of game agents, publishers and distributors around the world.

Trade relations between Chile & the USA
With 26 trade agreements signed with 64 markets, Chile currently has free access to 64.1% of the world’s population, corresponding to 86.3% of global GDP. These include the agreement signed with the USA that has been effective since January 1, 2004.
The signing of this Free Trade Agreement marked a landmark in Chilean history, as it meant consolidating and deepening its strategy of being an open, competitive economy based on the dynamism of exports.
On January 1, 2015, the goods of both countries completed their schedule of tariff reductions, meaning that since that date 100% of bilateral trade has been at a zero tariff rate.
Trade between the two countries has grown at an average rate of 5% per year since the FTA became effective. The United States is currently Chile’s:
- Principal foreign investor
- Second largest trade partner, with 13.1% of trade
- Leading market for non-mining exports, especially food and services
- Leading export destination for small- and medium-sized enterprises
