Santiago, November 13, 2017.- Chile will participate in Canada’s two most important independent music industry events for the third straight year.

Members of the record labels Quemasucabeza, Sello Mescalina, Eroica Producciones and Mundovivo will be among the 280 delegates from 17 countries who participate in the Mundial Montreal event from Tuesday, November 14 to Friday, November 17.

In addition, IMI Chile President Oliver Knust traveled to the North American country as a guest of M for Montreal, a parallel festival that will bring together over 250 representatives of the music industry from 19 countries. M for Montreal begins on Wednesday, November 15.

Chile will be the only Latin American country with an official presence at both events thanks to a strategy developed by ProChile and the independent music association as part of efforts to conquer new markets for this sector.

“We have focused on Canada because it has a highly competitive independent music industry with broad local offerings and development strategies in the various provinces and nationally. Its mixed model includes both the private and public sector, which contribute to the field’s development through synergy,” explained Camila Caro, who is responsible for international promotion of music at ProChile.

“Our strategy is to generate an associative business model in which Chile is positioned as a bridge for the insertion of Canadian music companies in Latin America. We want to focus on cooperation between the two countries. We follow the Canadian independent music industry’s example of a sustainable model with productive connections to other creative industries, such as audiovisual services and videogames,” noted ProChile Montreal Trade Representative Óscar Arriagada.

According to Portaldisc data, there were over 45 concerts by Chilean artists in Canada in 2016. The challenge is to expand the marketing of music-related. During the events, Chilean delegates will take part in various lectures, showcases and business roundtables. Additionally, on November 17 there will be a Chile networking meeting, which has become an well-known opportunity for Chilean representatives to meet with the important industry agents who attend the Montreal festivals.

Connections with Canada’s independent music industry will continue to be strengthened at the end of the month through the second edition of Festival Fluvial, which will be held in the city of Valdivia. The capital of the Los Ríos Region will host the important music industry event from November 30 to December 2. A sizeable Canadian delegation will participate in the festival again this year.
