Fresh Chilean fruit promoted through song and dance in Ontario, Canada
Those visiting this store were welcomed with Chilean songs, dancing and fruit. While the folk group AFOChile demonstrated the best of Chilean dances, especially the cueca, Sussane Bertolas, CFFA’s merchandiser in Canada, together with a group of promoters, invited visitors to taste Chilean fruit and dishes prepared with them, such as mini muffins with Chilean blueberries.
Every morning between 5 and 7 a.m., independent retailers from the eastern Canada market meet at the Ontario Food Terminal to seek the products they will sell in their stores. They represent 24% of this market’s total sales.
Sussane Bertolas explained, “this is the perfect place to attract the attention of all the independent buyers. It adds a little excitement and we change part of their morning routine. Our promotion was received with joy and laughter and that was our goal, as the impression will last longer. Maybe we’ll do it again for the start of the next Chilean fruit shipment season.”
The Canadian market buys US$160 million of Chilean fruit and wine a year and sales are growing by 5% per annum, according to information provided by Juan Antonio Figueroa, Chile’s Trade Commissioner in Canada.
